Program Objective

The program is designed to teach future phlebotomists how to draw blood samples from patients by venipuncture or microtechniques. Phlebotomy can be performed for transfusion, donation, research or testing purposes. ASA’s hands-on training helps students learn how to facilitate the collection and transportation of laboratory specimens.

  • Blood collection procedures and vital signs
  • Specimen collection
  • Drawing blood for transfusions, donations and research
  • Drawing blood from patients in hospitals, blood banks, Doctors’ offices, laboratories
  • Safety and Infection Control
  • Equipment Assembly (needles, gauze, tourniquet, cotton, alcohol)
  • Application of tourniquet, location of vein
  • Labeling and storage of blood container
  • Preparation for National Exams (Healthcare Association (NHA) and/or Medca Certificaton Exam)
